Within the project EU PFM facility, financed by the European Union and implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Centre of Excellence in Finance (CEF) and the Ministry of Finance of Slovakia, a series of specialised workshops on the EU VAT Directive was organised for employees of the Tax Administration of the Republic of Serbia.

Over the course of eight workshops, key topics such as taxation, the place of supply, the right to deduct, tax rates, and exemptions were discussed, along with practical implications for economic entities operating within the European Union and an analysis of case law from the European Court of Justice. The training helped participants gain a clearer understanding of the fundamental principles of the EU VAT system and recognise differences compared to the current Serbian legal framework.
The alignment of domestic regulations with the EU VAT Directive is crucial for economic entities, government bodies, and Serbia's overall readiness for EU accession. Our regulations are partly aligned, but more work remains to ensure full implementation of EU standards," stated expert Jovana Stojanović, who led the workshops.
Activities implemented through the project contribute to strengthening the knowledge of Tax Administration employees and to further aligning legislation with relevant EU VAT regulations.
